Prior to Sloan, Averil Spencer was the Executive Director of VOICE 4 Girls, an innovative life skills program for adolescent girls in low-income communities in India. As the Executive Director, Averil crafted the strategic direction, mission, and vision of the organization. She developed partnerships and processes to scale the organization to over 7,000 girls in three states. Averil began her career as a strategic consultant in a low-cost private school in the pilot cohort of the IDEX Fellowship in Social Enterprise (now IDEX accelerator) and later co-founded VOICE 4 Girls. Averil is currently pursuing a joint degree from MIT’s Sloan School of Management and the Harvard Kennedy School where she is merging business skills with knowledge about gender and development. Averil graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in Women’s and Gender Studies.
